Titou Gorge

Tolle Erfahrung! Würde ich sofort wieder machen!
Das Wasser ist wirklich kalt, aber man gewöhnt sich dran. Man hat keinen Boden unter sich, sobald man in die Schlucht schwimmt und bis man hinten beim Wasserfall ankommt. Man kann direkt zum Wasserfall gehen, aber die Strömung wird sehr sehr stark! Man muss die Beine kräftig in den Boden stemmen. Vorsicht beim Zurückgehen vom Wasserfall in die Schlucht, uns hat es, wie bei einer Rutsche, wieder rausgespült - Achtung Schürfwundengefahr…
Wir haben alles ohne Guide gemacht und waren auch oft alleine an ein paar Punkten, obwohl viele Menschen dort waren (wegen dem Kreuzfahrtschiff, das im Hafen lag), wir hatten nicht das Gefühl, dass ein Guide notwendig war („Guides“ sind die Einheimischen, die sich ein paar Dollar dazuverdienen wollen und vorm Eingang einfach warten, falls jemand einen braucht)
Wir sind mit einem Tourbus von ca 8 Personen dort gewesen. Am besten alles was nicht nass werden soll im Auto lassen! Je nachdem wo der Fahrer parken kann, ist der Weg vom Auto zum „Eingang“ 2-5min zu Fuß.
Eintritt ist kostenlos und die Schwimmweste zum Ausleihen kostet 3$ pro Person. Auch wenn man gut schwimmen kann, unbedingt eine Schwimmweste tragen!
Es sind viele Anbieter von Schwimmwesten & wasserdichten Handyhüllen vor Ort. Aber unser Anbieter hat bei vielen vergessen die Schwimmweste abzukassieren, da er bei so vielen Leuten den Überblick verlor und die Westen nach dem Schwimmen auf einen Haufen geworfen wurden.
Wertsachen, Kleidung, etc. kann man neben den zwei Umkleidekabinen ablegen, ist aber nur eine Art Tisch, also alles unbewacht. Etwas ungewöhnlich, haben wir aber beobachtet: Wertsachen im Auto von einem der Schwimmwestenanbieter ablegen.
Man hat alles in ca. 30min durch.
Unsere Tour kostete 40$ pro Person, startete/endete im Hafen und wir sahen auch noch die Twin Falls, Hot Springs, Aussichtspunkt auf Hafen & Innenstadt. Bekannte haben es günstiger ergattert: private Tour für max. 4 Personen im Taxi, 50$ fürs ganze Taxi für 4 Personen.

Wenn man schon mal dort in der Nähe ist, sollte man die kurze Schwimmübung zum Wasserfall auch mitmachen. Badeschuhe sind absolut empfehlenswert, Schwimmwesten gibt es vor Ort. Anlegen ist Pflicht.

This was an absolute highlight to visit and should not be missed! After getting past the cold temperature of the water, swimming through the gorge provided stunning cliffs and beautiful flora and fauna. I would highly recommend this experience.

Visited titou Gorge twice, Saturday was a sunny day and it was busy. Swam through the Gorge which is stunning and managed to get through the current into the waterfall. Yesterday we had it to ourselves and it was an experience not to be missed! Rain had made the current stronger but it was exhilarating! Didn't manage to get into the waterfall but the whole experience was great fun! This would be a must do for anyone travelling to dominica.

It's beautiful, emerald green water, high pressure waterfall, cold water.

Must have a life jacket to enter, $5ec dollars to rent one or an inflatable tire for a bit more.

Swimming along the gorge was so much fun even though it was cold! Amazing geological formation in the forest. Air was fresh and scenery beautiful. Worth the trip up there.

Worth a visit. The swim in (approx 50m) will pose no issues to anyone who thinks of themselves as able to swim. Life jackets provided for 10EC as some form of floatation is mandatory. Two areas in which you can rest if you need to approx 15m and 30m in to the gorge with the waterfall being another 20m or so.

It is very atmospheric though we were lucky to have the whole gorge to ourselves for the entirity. If you are a group larger than 6 or so the ambiance may be lost so I'd avoid a big tour group.

We bought a waterproof cover for our phone for 30EC though you can rent for 10EC. It was worth it and the case they had was about £10 on amazon anyway so we got it at about cost.

Guides on offer though you don't need one unless perhaps you want one adult per child. Little coffee shop on the way out and cold drinks/beer.

All the people working there were very happy and friendly.

Was breath taking didn't get the chance to get in the cave though because I has my 2yr old with me. Was surprised my din went in, this is very cold water but once in it you won't feel it

Bring your water shoes, mask/goggles and waterproof bag or camera case. Awesome swim with a life vest/belt (they have them there) is a must. The water is so refreshing and cool. Be careful as you climb into the falls basin as the water is moving quickly, so make sure you have a good footing. No liability clauses here as it should be. Just use your common sense about your ability.

Amazing experience tubing inside the canyon with our guide. He was amazing in making us feel safe yet brought on the fun! Would recommend!

Swam this little ICE COLDstretch of heaven last time on the island with Levi Baron, I highly recommend this when visiting the island. Water was wonderful and refreshing beautiful environment a must when visiting Dominica.

Perfect rest stop after a day of hiking in the steamy jungle. Short swim in a cool river, upstream through a narrow stone passage, to a refreshing waterfall. Afterwards, there is a snack table with cold beer, soda, water and various eats. Overall a very refreshing experience.

Beautiful cavern carved by a waterfall. Swim through the cavern until you come to the waterfall. Amazing.

Water was absolutely freezing cold and the current was so strong! Very dangerous tour! Don’t recommend unless you don’t mind hypothermia and a concussion!

Just a very cool place that should be seen if you make the island of Dominica. Incredible (and a bit scary) ride up the mountains from the coast. The views are phenomenal and the countryside lush. The gorge is an interesting and beautiful natural site. Do the swim, but note the water is COLD! Glad we did this.

Took a trail to the 2nd largest boiling lake in the world which I would describe more as an extreme hike. Through luscious rainforest, up and down mountains, through volcanoes and springs. By far one of the best ways to spend 7+ hours (nursing a hip injury slowed down slowed me down) of your time here on the island. I highly recommend using a guide because chances are you will get lost without one. Also comfortable trail shoes if you don't mind getting your sneakers wet are a must, enough water and my almost biggest mistake food but nothing heavy.

Great spot to take a trip. The real body is deep within the river. Its really deep but luckily they provide life jackets. Deeper in there you would get to see the waterfall
